Public Interest — 1990
Resolution: Public Interest, 1990
WHEREAS, the South Dakota Resources Coalition is an organization made up of citizens with public interest concerns; and
WHEREAS, our actions are directed toward the public interest, and these actions represent our membership; and
WHEREAS, these actions include contested decisions made by state boards, and it has been ruled that citizen organizations cannot represent themselves without an attorney; and
WHEREAS for most public interest groups, this would be a financial impossibility, thus effectively denying access to the process;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that public interest groups be allowed to represent their organizations in contested case hearings without an attorney, or that an attorney be appointed to represent them.
This resolution was adopted by the members present at the 1990 Annual meeting, September 29, 1990
